Raytheon and AWS strategically partner to improve space customer services

Raytheon, an RTX business, has entered a strategic collaboration agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to strengthen the competitiveness of satellite data processing and mission control solutions. The partnership is designed to give government and commercial customers faster, more scalable, and more secure mission capabilities than those typically delivered through traditional on-premises or legacy systems.

Cloud-Driven Differentiation in Mission Data Processing
The collaboration centers on building advanced, cloud-based architectures that combine Raytheon’s long-standing expertise in space systems, collection, and mission engineering with AWS’s AI, machine learning, and infrastructure services. By deploying processing and analysis workloads on AWS, customers are expected to reduce total mission costs, streamline system updates, and significantly shorten timelines for operational readiness. This approach stands out in a market where many legacy space programs still rely on slower, hardware-constrained environments.

Enhanced Flexibility for Satellite Constellation Management
Raytheon and AWS are working to modernize command and control for satellite constellations through modular, software-defined systems. These architectures are intended to scale more easily than traditional solutions, enabling faster integration of new sensors, assets, and applications. The use of AWS serverless technologies also aims to reduce maintenance overhead and improve resilience, offering an alternative to competitors whose architectures depend heavily on static infrastructure.

Mission Management at the Edge
A key differentiator for the partnership is the ability to extend mission control functions to the edge using AWS Outpost technologies. This capability allows operators to run cloud-grade services in remote or secure facilities, providing a consistent hybrid environment that is often difficult to achieve with other vendors’ custom-built edge solutions. The result is improved responsiveness and coordination during missions that require real-time or near-real-time decision-making.

Integrating Advanced AI for Operational Gains
Raytheon is incorporating AWS AI and ML services such as Amazon SageMaker and Amazon Bedrock to accelerate software development cycles and enhance mission operations. This integration is positioned to help organizations automate analysis, improve decision-support tools, and deploy new capabilities more rapidly—critical advantages in a sector where adversaries and emerging space companies alike are pushing to increase the speed of innovation.

Programs Already Underway
The two companies are actively implementing these technologies in programs for both government and commercial customers. Their shared goal is to offer a more agile, cost-efficient, and secure mission operations environment, aiming to outperform legacy approaches and competitive offerings that lack integrated cloud-native and AI-enabled architectures.
