TDK backs Ethereal Guild on world’s first fully reusable medium-lift launch vehicle

TDK Ventures has committed up to USD 5 million in a Series A investment to Ethereal Exploration Guild, an India-based space technology company developing a fully reusable medium-lift launch vehicle. The funding supports engineering and validation of the Razor Crest Mk-1 platform, designed to recover both the booster and upper stage to reduce launch costs and turnaround times for orbital missions.

The launch vehicle targets payload capacities within the medium-lift class, defined as approximately 2,000 to 50,000 kilograms. Ethereal Exploration Guild aims to achieve launch costs between USD 500 and USD 1,000 per kilogram, a threshold considered critical for enabling economically viable satellite constellations and emerging applications such as rocket-based cargo transport.

A key technical differentiator of the vehicle architecture is its reusable upper stage, which remains uncommon in current launch systems. This stage employs a proprietary Full Flow Segregated Cooling Cycle (FFSCC) rocket engine, intended to improve thermal management and reusability under high-stress operating conditions. The company also relies on in-house simulation environments and test infrastructure to shorten development cycles and validate reusability concepts early in the design process.

The investment aligns with growing demand for dedicated, cost-efficient launch services driven by rapid expansion of satellite constellations. Medium-lift vehicles are expected to dominate future launch demand, accounting for the majority of payload mass deployed to orbit over the next decade. India’s regulatory framework, engineering talent base, and cost-effective supply chain provide a favorable environment for developing and manufacturing such systems.

Beyond financial backing, the partnership enables access to TDK’s expertise in sensing technologies, passive electronic components, magnetics, and power-delivery systems. These capabilities are intended to support development of guidance, navigation, and control systems, as well as avionics modules designed to withstand high vibration and thermal loads associated with reusable launch operations.

Ethereal Exploration Guild has already manufactured an 80 kN reusable upper-stage engine, named Pegasus, and has established collaboration agreements with national and international space agencies, launch service providers, and satellite operators.
