Baumüller to showcase marine electrification solutions at SMM 2026

Baumüller will exhibit its portfolio of electric propulsion systems, charging infrastructure and integrated drive technologies for the marine industry during SMM 2026, taking place from September 1–4 in Hamburg, Germany. At Hall A4, Stand 334, the company will demonstrate system solutions designed for inland waterway vessels, ferries, workboats, research vessels and yachts, with a focus on ship electrification and hybrid propulsion.
Integrated propulsion systems for electric and hybrid vessels
The exhibition will highlight Baumüller's role as a system partner for complete marine drive systems rather than as a supplier of individual components. The company develops propulsion solutions that combine in-house technologies with third-party equipment to deliver integrated systems tailored to individual vessel requirements.
Its engineering portfolio covers battery-electric propulsion systems as well as hybrid configurations combining electric motors with e-fuel-powered generators. Depending on the application, complete propulsion packages can include electric motors, generators, frequency inverters, scalable lithium-ion battery systems with energy management, onboard power distribution units, control cabinets and drives for propellers and bow thrusters.
The integrated engineering approach is intended to simplify system selection and integration for shipyards, system integrators and vessel operators by providing a coordinated propulsion architecture.
Live demonstration of vessel energy management
Visitors to the exhibition stand will be able to explore the interaction between propulsion, onboard energy storage and power management through an interactive simulator. Using a control lever, different operating modes can be selected while a digital dashboard displays the behavior of an electric vessel under varying operating conditions.
The demonstration is designed to illustrate how propulsion systems, batteries and onboard electrical loads interact within an integrated energy management system.
Charging infrastructure for ports and vessels
In addition to propulsion technologies, Baumüller will present scalable charging infrastructure for marine applications. The company offers charging solutions with system architectures adapted to different vessel types and operational requirements.
The portfolio includes manual charging stations, telescopic charging systems, charging solutions integrated with loading cranes and ram-based charging concepts. Charging systems are available for conventional AC charging as well as DC standards including CCS2 and MCS. For high-power applications, Baumüller also develops customized DC charging systems with capacities of up to 6 MW.
According to the company, charging capacity and system configuration can be adapted to local infrastructure and customer-specific operating conditions instead of relying on predefined standard configurations.
Marine electrification supported by international partnerships
Baumüller will also present developments within its international marine network. During 2026, the company expanded its regional presence through cooperation agreements with Oceanking S.A. in Greece and Ranieri Tonissi S.p.A. for Italy and Slovenia to strengthen local support for marine electrification projects.
In addition, Baumüller Anlagen-Systemtechnik has participated in the Danfoss Drives Integrator Excellence Program since 2025 as an authorized system integrator, supporting the integration of electric drive technologies across industrial and marine applications.
The company's participation at SMM 2026 reflects the growing demand for integrated marine electrification technologies that combine propulsion systems, energy management and charging infrastructure to support the transition toward lower-emission vessel operations.
