Sensor specialist HENSOLDT supported the live firing of a German frigate with its non-rotating TRS-4D radar. Diehl Defence's IRIS-T SLM air defense system was tested in combination with the marine radar.

Like the ground-based TRML-4D air defense radar, the naval variant comes from the same “medium-range radar” product family. The TRML-4D radar has been integrated into the IRIS-T SLM for several years and is performing exceptionally well in reconnaissance missions in Ukraine. The family concept enables continuous product improvements and offers advantages in terms of spare parts supply and training.

HENSOLDT has decades of experience with radar systems in the naval sector and is actively driving forward the further development of key technologies in this area. Various versions of the TRS-4D product family radars are already in use on board German Navy ships, including the F125 frigate and the K130 corvette.

“We can use software to expand the functionality of our products so that they can be used in different scenarios,” says Markus Rothmaier, Head of Naval & Ground Radars at HENSOLDT. “With our capabilities in motion, we are predestined for maritime applications. Therefore, the use of the TRS-4D radar at sea in combination with the IRIS-T air defense system is another logical step on our path to equipping maritime units for today's requirements.”
