SMST has secured an order for three davit systems to be installed on a new 80-metre pilot base vessel for Vloot DAB, the state-owned operator responsible for pilotage services in Belgium. The systems will be used for the launch and recovery of Fast Launch Craft supporting pilot transfer operations.
The newbuild is designed by Conoship and will be constructed by Baltic Workboats together with Western Baltija Shipbuilding, both part of the BLRT Grupp.
SMST’s davit systems are designed for high-speed hoisting and controlled handling of craft weights ranging from 4.5 t to 25 t, depending on configuration. The systems are rated for operation in sea states up to a significant wave height of 3.5 m, with emergency capability up to 4.0 m. Integrated wave compensation is used to extend operational windows and maintain safety during launch and recovery in challenging conditions.
According to the companies involved, the selection was influenced by operational experience with similar systems in pilotage applications, where consistent workability and reliability are critical. An improved cable spooling arrangement is included to support durability and reduce wear over long service cycles.
The project represents the largest vessel undertaken to date by Baltic Workboats and reflects continued investment in modern pilot transfer infrastructure, combining advanced launch systems with purpose-designed pilot vessels for demanding North Sea operating environments.
