Japan Airlines (JAL) and Panasonic Avionics Corporation (Panasonic Avionics) revealed features of the in-flight entertainment (IFE) system, digital solutions, and connectivity service installed on the carrier’s new Airbus A350-1000 fleet.

The high-performance IFE system will provide JAL’s passengers with an elegant and engaging experience using the latest 4K screen technology, faster network speeds, and higher storage capacity than previous generation systems.

Each seat is furnished with Panasonic Avionics’ state-of-the-art in-flight entertainment system, delivering personalized services and a unique travel experience. Passengers will experience 43-inch screens in First Class, 24-inch screens in Business Class, 16-inch screens in Premium Economy, and 13-inch in Economy. Passengers in all cabin classes will be able to connect their personal headphones to the IFE systems using Panasonic Avionics’ Bluetooth®* audio technology. For passengers that want to be productive or otherwise use their personal devices during flight, Universal AC Power Outlet, USB-A and USB-C charging will be available at every seat.

Panasonic Avionics’ IFE system will also seamlessly integrate with the JAL mobile app, allowing passengers to create a “favourites” list pre-flight, with this feature set to launch starting the first half of 2024. JAL passengers can access the app from the comfort of their home, office, or airline lounge before they board, and choose their in-flight entertainment from a wide range of preselected content that they want to enjoy during their flight. Once onboard, they can safely and securely synchronize their trusted mobile device to the IFE system and enjoy their custom playlist.

The content displayed on Panasonic Avionics’ IFE screens will be available in 15 languages. It will also support accessibility features including color correction to help ensure an engaging entertainment experience for all.

JAL has selected Panasonic Avionics’ global in-flight connectivity services for its A350-1000 fleet. In-flight Wi-Fi is powered by Panasonic Avionics’ global network of high-speed, high-bandwidth satellites.

In addition to in-flight Wi-Fi and a host of other applications, these connectivity services will also enable an airline trial of Panasonic Avionics’ global live television service. Beginning in January 2024, JAL’s passengers will stay connected to global live events through NHK World Premium and BBC World News.

JAL and Panasonic Avionics add key features to these aircraft including a new flight map. Panasonic Avionics’ ArcTM 3D moving map platform brings a wide range of innovative new features to traditional inflight map applications such as a kids' map and much more.
