Thales and Turgis Gaillard are partnering to deliver a fully French MALE (Medium Altitude, Long Endurance) drone solution for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions. Under this collaboration, Turgis Gaillard will provide the AAROK drone, while Thales will supply its AirMaster S radar—an advanced, multirole AESA radar with proven performance aboard the French Navy’s Atlantique 2 maritime patrol aircraft. This partnership highlights Thales’ continued leadership in equipping drones with cutting-edge, combat-proven radars developed entirely in France. It also opens the door to integrating additional Thales sensors on the AAROK platform in the future.
The AAROK drone designed by Turgis Gaillard, unveiled at the 2023 Paris Air Show, is the first MALE (Medium Altitude, Long Endurance) drone to be entirely developed in France. It is designed for ISR missions in high-intensity conflicts and to conduct maritime surveillance operations.
To meet these specific mission requirements, Thales’ AirMaster S radar was selected for its exceptional operational capabilities, which have already been proven in combat conditions, both in export markets and in France, most notably on France’s ATL2 maritime patrol aircraft. The radar was also chosen for its compatibility for integration on MALE drones.
