A compact CMOSS-based navigation solution was demonstrated during a US Army field experiment, maintaining assured positioning and timing for ground and autonomous systems in denied and degraded GPS environments.

Field demonstration in contested environments
RTX, through its Collins Aerospace business, has demonstrated a new anti-jam Assured Positioning, Navigation and Timing (APNT) capability during the All-Domain Persistent Experiment conducted by the US Army at White Sands Missile Range. The demonstration focused on resilient navigation performance under conditions characterised by GPS jamming and spoofing.

Compact APNT architecture
The system is based on a Compact Modular Open Systems Standards (CMOSS) Mounted Form Factor (CMFF) card, representing the smallest APNT ground solution demonstrated by Collins Aerospace to date. Designed for integration into ground vehicles, including robotic and autonomous platforms, the card supports modular deployment within open-systems vehicle architectures.

Paired with an external antenna, the solution was evaluated in a denied and degraded GPS environment, where it maintained navigation performance despite active electronic interference.

Sensor fusion and navigation resilience
The APNT solution combines Military-code GPS with internal and external organic sensors, using sensor fusion to sustain positioning and timing when satellite signals are unreliable or unavailable. During the experiment, the system continued to provide navigation data in the presence of multiple jammers and spoofers, supporting uninterrupted operation of ground platforms.

This approach addresses operational requirements for assured navigation in contested environments, where reliance on conventional GPS alone can present mission risks.

Relevance to multi-domain operations
The All-Domain Persistent Experiment serves as an open-air test environment for evaluating technologies across denied, degraded, intermittent, and limited operating conditions. Capabilities assessed include sensors, networks, data processing, PNT, and electronic warfare systems.

The demonstrated APNT capability highlights how compact, open-architecture solutions can be integrated into a range of ground systems, supporting faster platform adaptation and resilient navigation across evolving operational scenarios.
