Lockheed Martin Delivers First C-130J to Latin America

Lockheed Martin has delivered a C-130J-30 Super Hercules to the Fuerza Aérea Mexicana, making Mexico the first country in Latin America to operate the C-130J platform. The acquisition represents a category first for the region and marks a fleet modernisation step for a long-time Hercules operator.

The C-130J-30 is the stretched version of the C-130J, adding 15 feet of cargo space compared with the standard configuration. This increase allows greater payload volume and improved transport efficiency for personnel, vehicles, and humanitarian supplies while retaining the ability to operate from short and semi-prepared runways.

Mexico’s air force is recapitalising its legacy C-130 fleet by leveraging existing infrastructure, trained crews, and established maintenance processes. This approach reduces transition time and supports faster operational availability compared with introducing an entirely new aircraft type.

The aircraft is certified for a wide range of tactical missions, including disaster relief, military transport, and regional support operations. Its selection aligns with renewed interest across Latin America in multi-role airlifters that combine proven performance with interoperability among international operators.

By introducing the C-130J-30 into service, Mexico joins a global fleet of more than 560 C-130J aircraft in operation worldwide, aligning its airlift capability with an established international platform while becoming the first adopter of the type in the region.
